Project Title: Timber Pallet Gallery
A venue led by students for students.
A University Project to design a gallery and retail space on behalf of the National Folk Festival
Collaborators: This was a group project in which I was fortunate enough to collaborate with the brilliant Savita Gaonkar and Alexander Gorecki.
A bit about the project:
The brief called for the integration of a gallery and retail space for the Folk Festival tradition bearers in 2013. The concept was derived from the spiral pattern and textured skin of a pinecone found during site analysis. The focus of this design was to create a safe, sustainable and inexpensive structure that could be rapidly put together and dismantled.
The response is a modular composition of recycled triangular pallet bricks describing dual Fibonacci curves. An outer pallet wall encloses the tradition bearers’ stalls, creating an implied gathering space. The larger structure houses the open-air gallery space, with custom pallet stands and cabinets for display.
